5 Must Have Wines for Valentine’s Day!

Forget the flowers and forget the chocolate…there is no better gift for Valentine’s Day than a delicious bottle of wine! I’ve compiled 5 must have wines for Valentine’s Day, and this list includes a wine for every palate (and budget)!

Bottega Prosecco Rosé D.O.C. Spumante Brut 2021

LCBO 20995, $17.95

It’s sparkling, celebratory, pretty, and it’s pink! This bottle makes an easy choice to sip on Valentine’s Day. A blend of Pinot Noir and Glera grapes by Bottega from the Prosecco D.O.C. of Veneto, Italy.
This sparkling rosé will make a perfect bottle for your Valentine/Galentine/Self . It’s off-dry, and displays notes of fresh strawberries, wild raspberries and a touch of honeysuckle.
Extremely food-friendly, this wine would pair with anything from chocolate covered strawberries to lobster ravioli!

13th Street Pinot Noir 2020

LCBO Vintages 31648 , $29.95

Most winemakers call Pinot Noir the heartbreak grape, as it can be so finicky to grow, but to me, it’s the heartthrob grape! Cool-climate Pinot Noir is my favourite wine style, and this expression by one of my favourite wineries, 13th Street, delivers on all fronts.

This Pinot is cultivated from the Whitty Vineyard in the Creek Shores sub-appellation of the Niagara Peninsula DVA in Ontario, Canada.

Aromas of red cherry, violets, cedar, and black earth. The palate delivers a harmonious balance of red fruit and earth tones upon lively acidity, a mineral underlayer, and fine-grained tannins. It wraps up with a long, juicy finish.

Tedeschi Amarone della Valpolicella 2018

LCBO Vintages 433417, $49.95

Adoro Amarone!
For the big red wine lover, try this wine by Italian winery icon Tedeschi. It is a red blend primarily made with Corvinone and Corvina grapes in the Valpolicella zone of Veneto, Italy.
Amarone is a wine style that’s made by drying the harvested grapes first to concentrate the sugars and flavours of the grapes to ultimately create an intensely flavoured, high alcohol wine.
Aromas of ripe cherry, prune, licorice, and dried roses burst from the glass. Rich, full-bodied, and powerful. Layers of concentrated dried fruit, floral, and earth tones unfold on the palate. Off-dry, but balanced as to be expected with an Amarone, and some intense heat coming in it 16.5%. Long finish.
This bold wine is begging to be paired with Steak and root vegetables! The perfect match for a big Valentine’s Day dinner.

Casal di Serra Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore 2020

LCBO Vintages 268169, $19.95
A wine that is sure to charm the white wine lover in your life. This certified organic white wine by Umani Ronchi is made with 100% Verdicchio in the Marche region of Italy. More impressively, it’s made within one of the two most revered regions in the world to grow this grape - Castelli di Jesi DOCG!
The wine presents enticing aromas of cornbread, lemon zest and floral too. Bright, and medium-bodied palate that presents ripe citrus, pineapple, pear skin and rain - very spring-like. Creamy, dreamy, and beautifully balanced!

Foss Marai Extra Dry

LCBO Vintages 729392, $19.95
Celebrate in style with a bottle of bubbly! A prosecco made with Glera grapes by Foss Marai that comes from the Valdobbiadene region of Veneto, Italy. An easy-going, light and fresh prosecco. This sparkling wine has notes of freshly sliced apple, nectarine, and mandarin. Exuberant mousse and some pleasantly balanced sweetness. It makes a fabulous sipper on its own but would pair well with a wide array of canapés and appetizers.
